Hazards Before The Tsunamis
The hazards that occur before the tsunami are small compared to the hazards during and after, but they are still present:
The hazards that occur before the tsunami are small compared to the hazards during and after, but they are still present:
- Sea life is effected because of the under water currents.
- Divers and snorkelers under water before the tsunami can be thrown onto rocks or cut on reefs due to the currents.
- The tsunami is often caused by an earthquake, which knocks over buildings that people can be inside.
- The earthquake can also trap people in buildings.
- Roads can be cracked after earthquakes.

Hazards During The Tsunamis
There are many hazard that occur during tsunamis, such as:
There are many hazard that occur during tsunamis, such as:
- Broken trees and branches are brought with the waves which mean that many people can be scratched, cut or even impaled.
- Sharks and other hazardous sea life come with the wave and are washed onto the streets and trapped in buildings.
- The waves are very strong (strong enough to rip clothes form bodies) and easily drown people.
- Cars are pulled along with the tsunami which is hazardous because they are large and people can get hit by them.
- It is hard to tell how big the wave safe from the beach so people could underestimate the size.
- The waves can move up to 500km per hour which means that elderly people and young children find it hard to run away quickly.
- The first tsunami surge is not the highest and the largest surge may occur hours after the first wave. It is not possible to predict how many surges or how much time will elapse between waves for a particular tsunami..

Hazards After Tsunamis
A large amount of hazards are left after tsunamis even though the initial wave is gone:
A large amount of hazards are left after tsunamis even though the initial wave is gone:
- Houses and buildings are knocked over, causing large bricks and pieces of rubble lying around the streets.
- Cars, boats and other large things are often washed on top of large buildings and could fall of at any time.
- Bodies of unlucky people are left to rot under piles of rubble and waste. These bodies could hold contagious diseases and begin to smell after a few hours.
- Hospitals are full which means that many patients are left lying on the streets and untreated.
- Broken telegraph poles could electrify the water which is hazardous because of all the water and wet things left behind.
- Bodies are left on the streets by families still mourning which is dangerous because the bodies could spread infection.
- Debris, bodies, boats and other things are washed onto beaches of other nearby countries which is hazardous because it damages the environment.
- Uncountable amounts of debris is floating in the ocean including houses, boats and cars which is hazardous because it is stopping boat routes and is bad for the environment.
- The tsunami was hazardous because many people saw and heard things that mentally damaged them, survivors also felt guilty because they survived and so many didn’t.
- A large percentage of the death toll was made up of children and teenagers which means that there is a large percentage of youth missing.
